WONTON SOUP

Wonton soup is a staple of Cantonese cuisine that is rich in flavour and steeped in nostalgia. This warm hearty soup gave us many happy memories growing up, and we invite you to create your own memories today! 


  • 3 Serves
  • Prep time: 15 minutes
  • Cooking time: 15 minutes

FILLING INGREDIENTS

  • 100g Peeled prawns mince
  • 150g Pork mince
  • 3 Garlic cloves peeled and minced
  • 1 Spring onion finely sliced (~1 tbsp)
  • 60g Nappa cabbage / normal cabbage minced
  • 8g Ginger minced (1/2 tbsp)

  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 1/2 tbsp Sesame oil
  • 1 tsp Chicken Bouillon powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp White pepper
  • 1/2 tbsp Corn starch 
  • 1 Egg    

cooking ingredients

  • 1.5 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1.5 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp Sesame oil
  • Chilli oil (optional)
  • 1 Can Chinese clear chicken broth (~411mLs)

  • 1 Packet Tak On Food Products Wonton 300g (~30 pastry sheets) 
  • 3 Bok choy bunches
  • Water
  • Neutral Cooking Oil
  • Spring onion finely sliced (garnishing)


mixing INSTRUCTIONS FILLING

  1. Peel ginger and garlic.
  2. Chop and mince ginger, garlic, nappa cabbage and add to mixing bowl.
  3. Finely slice spring onions, discard roots and add to mixing bowl.
  4. Mince peeled prawns, discard tail and add to mixing bowl.
  5. Add pork mince to mixing bowl.
  6. Add soy sauce, shaoxing wine, sesame oil, chicken bouillon, white pepper, corn starch and egg to mixing bowl.
  7. Mix ingredients by hand for 2-3 minutes or until paste like consistency.

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS Wontons

  1. Place ~13 to 15g of filling on the centre of wonton wrapper and fold into your desired shape.
  2. Repeat step 1 and fold all of your wontons.
  3. Boil a large pot of water and add 1 tbsp neutral cooking oil (prevents boiled wontons from sticking).
  4. Boil wontons in large pot until floating and then a further 2 minutes.
  5. Remove boiled wontons and set aside.


COOKING INSTRUCTIONS Soup

  1. Add Chinese clear chicken broth and 1L of water to a new pot, and bring to boil.
  2. Wash and cut bok choy into quarters.
  3. Once soup is boiling, add your bok choy and stir.
  4. Cook bok choy for 1-2 minutes or until soup returns to a boil.
  5. Add your soy sauce, shaoxing wine, sugar, sesame oil and stir.
  6. Add cooked wontons to soup. 
  7. Serve with chilli oil and garnish with spring onions.
